The occasional home facial is a great way to boost our skin care results, enjoy a bit of self care, & relax our way to glowing skin. Giving your facial a winter twist ensures we're giving our skin the nourishment it needs during this drier, colder season. This is just one example of a winter home facial routine to target dry, rough, winter-weary skin. Feel free to mix it up to meet the specific needs of your skin!
Cleansing is the start of any skin care routine, but you can elevate and winterize it with a double cleanse using your Argan Oil to remove your makeup before you use your Vitamin C Cleanser. Watch our double cleansing tutorial here!
Massage a few pumps of Argan Oil onto dry skin for 30 seconds. Splash with warm water and massage a bit more and towel off. Follow with your cleanser and usual cleansing routine and pat dry.
Here’s where we see and feel what our skin needs. Is it dry, uneven, rough, blotchy... how do your pores look? Assess your skin and make a game plan for what products and treatments you’ll use. (Need help with choosing products for your skin’s needs? Take the skin quiz here!)
If you want to steam your skin you can do it here, but it’s not essential. It is nice to take a warm, damp washcloth and let it set over the face for a few minutes to soften the skin and prepare it for a deeper treatment. This is a facial after all!
Grab your Microdermabration Resurfaing Exfolaitor and massage it onto the skin for 30 seconds and let it sit for 5 minutes so the glycolic, lactic, and salycilic acid can work more deeply. Massage it off of the skin as you rinse it away and pat the skin dry.
Bonus: Make a lip scrub with your Argan Oil and some granulated sugar while you wait. Mix a few pumps of oil in a small container and sprinkle in your granulated sugar. Massage on the lips gently and towel off. Watch our DIY lip scrub tutorial here!
The Enzyme Masque is the perfect nourishing boost for dry, rough winter skin. It is packed with gentle enzymes and luxurious oils to restore and smooth the look of your skin. Take your Mask Application Brush and paint it over the skin in an opaque layer, avoiding the eye and mouth area. Let it sit on the skin for 15-20 minutes and then wipe off with a damp washcloth. (You may choose a sheet mask in it’s place if you’d prefer in this step.)
Bonus: Drink a cup of water or herbal tea while you relax. You can also give your feet a scrub with the charcoal body scrub, apply the enzyme masque to them, wrap them up at sit back and have a foot treatment too!
Tone and Balance
A traditional facial has the toner in this step to balance the skin and get it ready for your serums and moistuizer. (If you love the feeling the enzyme masque leaves on the skin, you may use the toner after your cleansing or exfoliation step.) You really can’t go wrong with the Hydrating Toner because it gives a boost of hydration and feels incredible.
Serums and Treatments
Reach for your serums of choice, but avoid retinol because this facial uses exfoliation – it's best to use your other serums. What are your favorite serums? Let us know in the comments!
Esthetician Tip: My favorite skin barrier boosting combination for this facial is the Hydrate and Smooth Serum followed by the 10% Niacinamide Booster pressed gently into the skin. Just a few drops of each is all you need! It improves the look of hydration in the skin and targets, fine line and wrinkles, dark spots, and the look of large pores. Don’t forget to dab your Youth Glow Eye Gel around your eyes and lips.
If you going for the ultimate winter skin-saver, reach for the Glyco Peptide Anti-Wrinkle Moistuizer. It is packed with a proprietary peptide-ceramide blend, botanical hyaluronic acid, and is deeply moistuzing without feeling heavy. Take a blueberry sized pump and apply evenly around the face.
Oil and/or SPF
The best part about this facial is that it can be done day or night. If you did this during the day, finish with your SPF. If you did this facial at night, take a pump of your Rosehip Oil and pat around the face, give an extra little dab around the eyes and lips to finish.
Enjoy the GLOW!
