Esthetician Secrets for Protecting Your Skin All Summer

Summer is in full swing, and with all of the seasonal fun, we can also get a side of skin concerns. In fact, the #1 cause of the visible signs of aging is sun exposure. UV damage can account for 80-90% of the damage we see to our skin. This is known as photoaging.

It is important to note that UV damage happens year-round — even on cloudy days. Sun care and UV protection are not just seasonal. However, in the summer months, we can get excess sun exposure and heat that can increase the risk and impact of skin damage.

Proper sun care and the use of sunscreen SPF 30+ are essential. Adding skincare products rich in potent antioxidants can take our sun care to the next level. Sunscreen can't block all free radicals that cause oxidative stress to our skin. Antioxidants help create a well-rounded skincare routine, both day and night.

Your Skin Concerns: Dark Spots, Uneven Skin Tone, & Hyperpigmentation

Excess UV exposure can trigger protective processes in our skin that release natural antioxidants. Melanin is an antioxidant found in our skin. But, with too much UV exposure, the cells that release the melanin can become hyperactive. This can lead to dark spots and hyperpigmentation. The heat in the summer months can make this even worse and harder to diminish

Vitamin C is ideal for daytime. It’s a potent antioxidant that can help prevent visible dark spots, reduce their appearance, and even the look of skin tone and hyperpigmentation.

Our Brighten & Even Serum is perfect for daytime. It has Kakadu Plum, which is the world's richest source of vitamin C, with 100x the vitamin C of an orange! It’s amazing at fighting the appearance of free-radical damage, improving the look of dark spots, and brightening the look of skin for an overall glow.

Ferulic acid is also a key ingredient in our Brighten and Even Serum. It provides additional antioxidant benefits to the skin while enhancing the stability of the vitamin C in the serum. It’s both reparative and protective as it is also a powerful antioxidant.

Our 30% Vitamin C Dry Oil is the ideal night treatment. It is formulated with 30% THD Ascorbate, which has been shown to improve the look of unwanted hyperpigmentation and melasma. It’s a highly stable and oil-soluble form of vitamin C, meaning it provides the deepest delivery for maximum results.

It also contains Bright Oléoactif®, which is a nourishing blend of marshmallow root, rice bran, and licorice root. It works to hydrate, soothe, and brighten the appearance of your skin. This potent blend is clinically proven to reduce the look of dark spots, while visibly refining the overall look of your complexion.

Your Skin Concerns: Large Pores & Texture

Did you know that it’s completely natural to have visible pores? Oilier skin types typically have larger, more noticeable pores. What you may not know is that sun exposure can make our pores look larger, and cause lasting damage that can lead to uneven skin texture. The sun damages the proteins like collagen and elastin in our skin, impairs our lipid barrier, and triggers inflammation. This leads to:
  • Sagging skin
  • Imbalanced oil production
  • Dehydration
  • Irregularities in the thickness around the edges of our pores and facial skin

Our 10% Niacinamide Booster is packed with potent ingredients. Niacinamide (vitamin B3) is an antioxidant that can help balance oil production, reduce the look of redness, and minimize the look of pores and hyperpigmentation. It’s safe to use with your other active skincare ingredients, like vitamin C and retinol, and can be used day and night.

Your Skin Concerns: Lines & Wrinkles

As we age naturally, our cell turnover slows and we start producing less collagen. These processes begin to decline in our mid to late 20s. One of the most drastic impacts UV exposure has on the skin is degrading and destroying the proteins in our skin. Collagen and elastin give our skin structure and stretch. This dramatically increases the look of lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. UV damage and the resulting oxidative stress have a cumulative impact.

Using antioxidant skincare that supports our natural collagen production can help improve the look of lines and wrinkles. It is important to note that sun care and the use of SPF to prevent UV damage from happening is essential year-round.

Our Vitamin C Booster is key when targeting lines and wrinkles. Ascorbic acid is pure vitamin C, which is both potent and water-soluble. It provides antioxidant protection and brightens the appearance of your skin, improves the look of fine lines and wrinkles, and repairs the appearance of damaged skin.

Our Firm & Lift Serum is also a must for targeting fine lines and wrinkles. It has granactive retinoid, which is a true retinoid and more advanced than traditional retinol. It’s generally tolerable for all skin types and dramatically reduces the look of fine lines, wrinkles, and unwanted dark spots. It works to reveal a smoother, more even-looking complexion without the irritation that may come with retinol use.

It also has Bakuchiol, which is a natural, plant-based antioxidant that can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, help restore firmness, refine the look of skin texture and even out skin tone. It provides amazing results without irritation. Bakuchiol is derived from the seeds of the babchi plant, which contains unique compounds, called Terpenophenols, that feature powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.

So remember, you can still have fun in the sun! But skin care is healthcare and it’s important to take the proper steps to prep, protect, and repair the beautiful skin you’re in.

Here’s to a glowing summer full of fun, skincare, SPF, plenty of water, and relaxing!
