Some of us may be hoping spring is around the corner, but winter is just getting started. While you’re preparing to combat the cold weather, it’s a great time to look at your skincare routine and make some seasonal changes for glowing skin year-round.
Thankfully, with the following tips, you will be able to manage any unnecessary dryness & irritation and know how to adjust your skincare routine accordingly during the winter months.
How Winter Impacts Our Skin
Winter can bring harsher weather and colder temperatures, which in turn impacts our skin. Cold weather, with its relatively low humidity, can make your skin more dry and flaky. Not only is the air drier, but indoor heating further depletes skin of moisture. Typically, with the extra dryness can come more prominent fine lines & wrinkles, unwanted pigmentation, blotchiness, and dull-looking skin.
Tip #1: Hydrate & Protect
The cold temperatures and dry air are some of the top stressors on our skin in the winter. Change your moisturizer and add in a facial oil for extra nourishment when your skin feels and looks drier.
Make sure your skin is cleansed thoroughly and exfoliated when needed, but don’t overdo it! You will also want to limit extremely hot showers or cleansing your face in hot water as this can dehydrate the skin even further.
Don’t just protect your skin from harsh winds and extreme cold, but protect it from the sun as well. UV radiation is the #1 contributor to premature skin aging. SPF, such as our Glow Pure Tinted Mineral SPF, is essential year-round!
Esthetician Tip: An easy way to avoid skin dehydration & irritation is to sleep with a humidifier (or have one running in your home). Also, make sure you are consistently moisturizing to support your skin’s lipid barrier. You can always adjust your routine accordingly if needed!
Tip #2: Incorporate Hydrating Ingredients
1. Niacinamide
Our Niacinamide Booster Serum is a winter favorite for many reasons. Not only does it help balance the appearance of unwanted shine and large pores, but it also reduces the appearance of hyperpigmentation and redness. Harsh and cold winter weather can wreck havoc on our moisture barrier, but Niacinamide is one of our top barrier boosting ingredients!
2. Dermaxyl®
A powerful peptide blend developed specifically for making skin look dramatically younger. This ingredient has been shown to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. This anti-aging ceramide compound formulation is designed to smooth the look of wrinkles and visibly repair the appearance of skin damage. It is featured in our Anti Wrinkle Moisturizer which is the perfect moisturizer for the wintertime.
3. Hydrosella ™
Hydrosella™, an organic botanical extract of the Australian Wild Rosella, has been shown to offer long-lasting hydrating effects for up to 72 hours after application. It works to improve the look of hydration and to help restore the delicate skin barrier. Due to these hydrating and skin-plumping properties, it is an excellent ingredient for dry and aging skin. This ingredient helps to calm and soothe skin, making it a go-to for winter. That's why we've formulated our Dramatically Dewy Serum with this ultra-moisturizing ingredient. If you haven’t tried our this serum yet, now is the perfect time.
4. Squalane
Derived from plants, this antioxidant emollient can penetrate the skin deeply because it is so similar to the squalene found in our skin. It can help protect against the visible free-radical damage to our skin's lipid barrier and be protective of our skin’s ceramides and cholesterol. It is moisturizing and can help balance the skin’s oil production, calm the look of inflammation, and help lock in hydration. Our 30% Vitamin C Dry Oil and our Brilliant Barrier Water Cream both feature by this nourishing ingredient.
5. Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is a key molecule in maintaining the look of skin hydration through the binding of water. It can help support our skin's natural moisture factor, barrier, and even the biome. It lends synergy to our entire skincare routine! Hyaluronic acid can even help other water-loving skincare ingredients absorb more easily as it can hold up to 1000x its weight in water! Hyaluronic acid can minimize the look of lines and wrinkles, even the look of skin tone, and add a more supple feel and radiant-looking glow. It's easily tolerable, very safe to use, and suitable for all skin types.
Tip #3: Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
It wouldn’t be wintertime without the need for extra moisture in your skin, regardless of your skin type. If your skin is feeling tight, itchy, or looks more red & blotchy, it’s time to level up your moisturizing routine. Applying moisturizers and oils to your face and body can aid in barrier protection which helps stop TEWL, or transepidermal water loss, in the skin.
Our Anti Wrinkle Moisturizer is the perfect moisturizer for the wintertime. It is luxurious but lightweight and it targets the signs of aging by deeply hydrating and nourishing the appearance of the skin. It is formulated to absorb quickly with a proprietary blend of Solumoist, Dermaxyl®, and MATRIXYL® featuring wrinkle-filling properties for a more youthful look, while powerful peptides and vitamins help to deeply nourish skin.
Our Vitamin C Moisturizer is also great for use during winter. Since vitamin C is not a naturally occurring vitamin in the body, topical application of radiance-boosting vitamin C is an important step in your glowing skincare routine. Formulated for daytime use, this creamy formula leaves skin feeling supple, smooth, and hydrated. It also has Shea Butter and works as an emollient that softens and hydrates skin.
Esthetician Tip: Don’t be afraid to apply an extra bit of your moisturizer or add a drop or two of oil right into your moisturizer when your skin is feeling extra dry.
Oils can also be a game-changer in the winter. They can be used not only at the end of your routine, but also in your hair, on your nails, and mixed in with your favorite body lotion.
Our 30% Vitamin C Dry Oil is a luxurious, antioxidant-rich dry oil formulated to help brighten and hydrate the look of skin. Versatile, non-greasy, and easy to tolerate, this dry-touch oil pairs well with other active ingredients in your skincare routine, day or night.
Tip #4: Don't Forget To Exfoliate
Exfoliation and retinol are key to shedding off dry, dead winter skin. Because of the cold, harsh weather during winter, you want to make sure you are not over-exfoliating your skin and unnecessarily stripping the skin’s barrier.
For extra nourishing exfoliation, our Wake Up Radiant AHA Peel is a gentle surface exfoliator that brightens, smooths, and firms the look of skin overnight. Microdoses of 9 Alpha Hydroxy Acids slowly release into the skin’s top layers – melting away excess dead skin for dramatic rejuvenation.
You can also clear the way with BHA. Our Refine It! BHA Liquid Exfoliant is an acid-packed exfoliator that refines the look of congested skin. Blending 2% salicylic acid with a tropical fruit complex, this formula works within the pores, dissolving dead skin cells to clear the look of breakouts, visibly smooth bumpy texture, and fade the look of hyperpigmentation.
The Firm & Lift Serum is an advanced formulation that contains granactive retinoid, a true retinoid that is more gentle and tolerable than traditional formulas. It also contains additional skin soothers as well as bakuchiol for an effective and easy-to-tolerate serum.

I love using the GoPure Rosehip oil. I add a drop to my Antiwrinkle moisturizer and then at the end of my AM and PM skincare routine Ali add a compile of drops more. I also like to add a few drops of the Argan Oil. I add it to my hands and nails also. I like to do it a bit before bed time to allow it to soak in well. The I add the Argan to my lips and top off with Aquafor lip balm. All these little steps have definitely improved my skin to a point at 73 years old my skin looks and feels great. Thank you GoPure for your great suggestions!

Hello Brenda,
You’re welcome! Thanks also for sharing the different ways of how you use our amazing facial oils. 💚
I was told by my dermatologist that we should not put oil on our body. She said the micro organisms that live on our skin thrive on it. Since then I can’t use oil. What our your thoughts.

Hello Grace,
Thanks for your inquiry! Micro organism cannot live on your skin if you are cleansing your skin daily and exfoliating a few times a week. Remember that facial skin is more sensitive and prone to dryness compared to the skin in our body. We recommend applying just a few drops of our facial oil to help hydrate your skin.
