As we enter 2025, it’s a great time to reflect on our habits – to see what’s working and what’s no longer serving us. The same goes for our skincare routine! The beauty industry evolves rapidly and it can be easy to get caught-up in all of the new trends. So, if you're looking to refine your skincare regimen, here are a few habits I’m leaving behind this year as a Licensed Esthetician and beauty professional.
1. Following EVERY skincare trend
We know skincare trends can come and go in the blink of an eye. While some may be effective, many are just gimmicks that don’t provide long-term benefits. From viral ingredients to new and complex routines, I know it can be tempting to jump on every bandwagon.
What I’m Doing Instead:
- Focusing on proven ingredients that work for my skin type, like retinol, vitamin c, and niacinamide.
- Listening to my skin and tailoring my routine based on its needs, rather than chasing the latest trend.
Pro Tip: Stick to what you know. The fundamentals of a skincare routine, such as cleansing, moisturizing, and protecting with SPF, will always work best in the long run. You know what’s tried and true, so don’t feel pressured to try EVERYTHING new - especially after you’ve found a routine that works for you!
2. Overcomplicating my routine with too many steps
Overloading your skin with too many products can lead to irritation, clogged pores, and even pilling of your products. Your skin doesn’t need 10-steps to look healthy. It just needs the essential products that cater to your skin concerns. However, if you love a 10-step regime, that’s fine too! As an esthetician, the last thing I want is for anyone to feel confused and overwhelmed with their routine.
What I’m Doing Instead:
- Simplifying my routine to always include the basics, such as our Gentle Gel Cleanser, Moisturizers, Glow Pure Tinted Mineral SPF, and targeted treatments.
- I am also including our Power Trio daily. Our Power Trio was formulated to be added to your routine without confusion. Three serums, for both day and night, for all your skincare concerns! Plus, all skin types can use them as well. I love the results these serums provide me without complicating my routine.
Regardless of your routine, know that consistency is key. If sticking to a simple routine with quality products will make it easier for you to stay consistent, then that is better than nothing at all!
3. Not caring for the skin on my body
I hear time and time again from clients over the years that they wish they started taking care of the skin on their body much sooner. The neck, hands, arms, and more! The skin on different areas of our body can be more delicate and susceptible to signs of aging. Because we don’t often focus on these areas, concerns can appear rather abruptly such as dark spots, dryness, fine lines & wrinkles, and more! Our skin is our largest organ regardless of where it is located, let’s treat it as such.
What I’m Doing Instead:
- Bringing my skincare from my face down to my neck, chest, and hands! Typically when you apply your skincare, there is always a little leftover on your fingertips. Don’t wipe it off or let this go to waste! Pat it into other areas of your body instead.
- Using body care in addition to skincare. Like I mentioned before, different areas of the body have different types of skin and skin concerns. Therefore, it only makes sense to use products that are formulated for these areas. I love the Tighten & Lift Neck Cream for my neck and chest and our Sculpt & Tone Arm Cream for my upper arms.
Pro Tip: You can also spot treat other areas of the body, too! For example, if you have stubborn dark spots on your hands, try adding in our 30% Vitamin C Dry Oil to those areas.
Goodbye 2024, hello 2025!
Let’s leave behind these old skincare habits in 2024. The goal is to cultivate a routine that’s simple, effective, and tailored to your skin’s needs. I’ll be focusing on ingredients and formulas that work best for my skin, simplifying my routine, and not neglecting my body care!
