10-Step Winter Skincare Guide

Dry winter weather and environmental conditions can make our skin look dull and dehydrated and make our skin feel dry and uncomfortable. But, it doesn’t have to be that way!

Not only is it important to update our skincare routine seasonally, but it's also important to look at additional treatments that can help us combat our seasonal skin concerns. An indulgent seasonal home facial is an ideal way to boost our skin care results, enjoy a bit of self-care, and relax our way to a more moisturized glow.

Giving your facial a winter update ensures we're giving our skin the nourishment it needs during this drier, colder season. This routine focuses on clarifying, exfoliating, and deeply moisturizing the skin. Your skin should look smoother, your skin barrier should feel strong and supported, and you should be left with that unmistakable moisturized goPure glow.

Esthetician Note: This is just one example of a winter home facial routine to target the look of dry, rough, winter-weary skin. Feel free to mix it up to meet the specific concerns and needs of your skin.

1. Winterize Your Cleansing Steps

Cleansing is the start of any skincare routine, but you can elevate and winterize it with a double cleanse using your Micellar Makeup Remover Wipes (or our Argan Oil) to remove your makeup before you cleanse with your Vitamin C Cleanser.

Pre-Cleanse: Gently swipe the Micellar Wipes across the face and eyes to remove makeup and impurities. You can also massage a few pumps of Argan Oil onto dry skin for 30 seconds. Next, splash your face with warm water to rinse.

Cleanse: Follow with your Vitamin C Cleanser and massage with warm water for full 60 seconds. Gently pat dry with a clean towel.

2. Perform an At-Home Skin Analysis

After cleansing is the best time to see and feel what we think our skin needs. Is your skin dry, rough, or is your skin tone uneven and blotchy? How do your pores look?

Assess your skin and make a game plan for what products and treatments you’ll use.

3. Soften Skin with a Steam

Steaming your skin is not essential but with this routine, I like to do a light steam before exfoliating. This helps to soften the skin so the scrub can work its magic!

Esthetician Tip: Only properly cleansed skin should be steamed.

If you don't have a facial steamer, you can use a warm, damp washcloth and let it set over the face for a few minutes to soften the skin and prepare it for a deeper treatment.

4. Scrub Away Dead Skin

Grab your Microdermabrasion Exfoliator and massage it onto damp skin for 30 seconds. Be sure not to use too much pressure – remember to let the scrub do the work for you!

You can leave the scrub on for 5 minutes so the glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acids can work more deeply. Next, massage the scrub off as you rinse thoroughly. Finish up by gently patting skin dry.

Bonus: Make a lip scrub with your Argan Oil and granulated sugar while you wait. Mix a few pumps of oil in a small container and sprinkle in your granulated sugar. Massage it onto the lips gently and towel it off.

Double Steam: If you want to do a longer steam now that the skin is cleansed and exfoliated, this can be a great idea to deeply prep the skin for the rest of the facial.

5. Nourish with Face Masks

Our Restorative Enzyme Mask is the perfect nourishing boost for dry, rough winter skin. It is packed with gentle enzymes and luxurious oils to restore and smooth the look of your skin.

Take your mask brush and paint it over the skin in an opaque layer, avoiding the eye and mouth area. Let it sit on the skin for 15-20 minutes and then wipe it off with a damp washcloth. (You may choose a sheet masque in its place if you’d prefer in this step.)

Bonus: You can also give your feet some love with our Microdermabrasion Resurfacing Exfoliator! Apply the scrub to help soften your heels or the side of your feet and follow up with our Enzyme Masque! Wrap your feet up in plastic wrap to allow the masque to deeply nourish the skin. After 15-20, unwrap your feet and wipe off the masque with a damp cloth to reveal smoother, softer looking feet!

6. Prep Skin With Toner

A traditional facial has toning in this step to balance the skin and get it ready for your serums and moisturizer. You really can’t go wrong with the Hydrating Toner because it gives a boost of hydration and feels incredible.

Esthetician Tip: If you love the feel the enzyme mask leaves on the skin, you may use the toner after your exfoliation step.

7. Target & Treat Concerns

Reach for your serums of choice! Please note, it's best to avoid products containing retinol since this facial uses exfoliation.

Esthetician Tip: My favorite skin barrier boosting combination for this facial is the NEW Dramatically Dewy Serum followed by the 10% Niacinamide Booster. Just a few drops of each is all you need! This combo helps to improve the look of hydration, support our natural lipid barrier, and targets fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, and the look of large pores.

8. Revitalize Your Under Eyes

Use your Skincare Spatula to scoop out your ideal amount of Advanced Repair Eye Cream. Next, use the roller ball to gently massage the eye cream in circular and sweeping motions around your eyes.

9. Moisturize Dry Winter Skin

If you going for the ultimate winter skin-saver, reach for the Glyco-Peptide Anti Wrinkle Moisturizer. This moisturizer is packed with a proprietary peptide-ceramide blend and botanical hyaluronic acid which leave skin feeling deeply moisturized without feeling greasy or heavy.

Take a blueberry-sized pump and apply it evenly around the face. Don’t forget to give your neck the targeted care with our Tighten and Lift Neck Cream.

10. Protect with Facial Oils and/or SPF

The best part about this facial is that it can be done day or night. If you did this during the day, finish with your SPF.

If you did this facial at night, take a pump of your Rosehip Oil or Argan Oil (or mix them) and press around the face. Give an extra  dab around the eyes and lips to finish.

Now it's time to enjoy the glow! Let us know what your favorite step of this facial is in the comments below!

Thanks for the guide. Much cheaper than going to the salon! I’m looking forward trying this over the holidays.

My favorite part is adding the rose hip oil after all the serums and the glyco peptide mosturizer. My skin feels so hydrated and glowing.
