8 Beauty Hacks You Need To Know!
Tough times require desperate measures. Maybe not desperate and maybe your ‘tough time’ is simply wanting to save money or save time (heck, even save your sanity!) but either way, I’d like to share some beauty hacks that could make your day a little easier. As a person who likes all things skin care and beauty, I’ve chosen some of my favorite hacks that I’ve personally tried and loved and now I’m here sharing them with you!
1. NO TIME FOR A PEDICURE? NO PROBLEM!
Now this trick may sound odd, but it is very effective. Begin with a bowl big enough to soak your feet adding ¼ cup Listerine (any ‘flavor’), ¼ cup Vinegar, and lastly add ½ cup of warm or hot water. Sit and relax maybe apply a soothing enzyme mask as you wait while your feet are soaking for about 15-20 minutes. You’ll then wipe in a circular and scrubbing motions using a damp washcloth and watch the dead skin disappear. *I currently have a heel file that I also like using for added smoothness.
2. SHAKY HANDS? MESSY POLISH?
I don’t always have time for manicures and when attempting to paint my nails my hands are just way too shaky and well, it ends up all over my cuticles. If you seem to find yourself having this problem with shakiness or arthritis making it difficult to hold the brush, this hack may be perfect for you. Get a Q-tip dipped in Vaseline or coconut oil and apply on the skin surrounding the nail. Once your nails are painted and dried, wash your hands and gently wipe away the oil which separated any polish that would have gotten on your skin.
3. SOMETHING THAT HELPS WITH WRINKLES, HAIR TANGLES AND BREAKAGE? YES PLEASE!
When sleeping on regular cotton or polyester pillowcases you may be causing damage to your hair and skin. Replacing your old pillowcases for ones made from silk or satin (as one that gets hot flashes I find silk to be less ‘heated’). Those that sleep on their side or on their stomach tend to wake up in the morning with dehydrated skin and creases on their pillow as well as on their face. By using silk or satin pillowcases there’s much less friction allowing your face to move gently on the pillow. This amount of friction also works wonders on your hair (my waves love it!) while keeping moisture and shine as well as also hair being pulled causing breakage.
4. ICE ICE BABY!
The act of simply rubbing ice cubes all over your face although a bit uncomfortable, may help you look younger and with a smoother makeup application. Once your skin is thoroughly cleansed, you begin by gently rubbing an ice cube on your face until the ice has melted. The freezing cold can appear to tighten and close pores while reducing redness allowing for a glowing appearance. Not only will pores seem to be less visible but your makeup application will last longer than usual.
5. A GREAT LIPSTICK CAN BRIGHTEN YOUR DAY!
I must begin by suggesting you purchase a red/orange tone lipstick just for this (the cheap .99 lipsticks don’t apply smoothly so it causes you to pull and rub that gentle skin under your eyes. Purchase one that slides easily). After your regular skin care regimen before applying makeup you will first apply a good primer which can appear to help in filling in some fine lines as well as helps makeup last longer. Using the lipstick gently create an upside triangle from the outer corner of the eye to the inner, gently filling it in. Once completed either using a beauty sponge blend thoroughly (*you will still see the red color). The red/orange hue allows you to camouflage darkness. Apply your under eye concealer blending until the shade of lipstick isn’t visible then apply your favorite foundation. *Hint: Practice a few times before stepping out in public or for an event making sure you’re able to blend well leaving not one trace of color.
6. GOOD BYE DARK CIRCLES!
Another trick with frustrating dark circles can be found in green tea bags. Apply chilled green tea bags on your eyes as you lay down and relax and allowing the cold feeling to appear to constrict the blood from pooling which causes the dark color. The antioxidants found in the green tea can allow for the blood to flow. Circles won’t vanish but you might notice a difference.
7. FAKE A BROW LIFT INSTANTLY!
Faking this brow lift of course won’t have the same results as going under the knife but it’s a simple way to raise your brows instantly. This brow lift allows eyes to appear brighter and more youthful rather than the appearance of loss of elasticity bringing everything downward. Once your concealer and foundation are already on, using the lightest concealer or a white pencil draw a thick line around the brows carefully smudging and blending for definition. Add an illuminating highlighter under the eyebrow tapping to blend in with the light concealer. While at it, apply the highlighter to the inside corner of the eye gently creating a soft refreshed look.
8. WAKE UP THOSE EYES!
When it comes to aging, the area around the eyes seem to darken and appear tired and dull. Whether it’s aging or stress or even simply a bad night’s sleep anything you could do to make your eyes appear awake seems to turn back the hands of time, or at least look like it. Using light eyeshadows and eyeliners are a big secret to achieving that bright and youthful look. When it comes to the torturous eyelash curler though, by carefully warming up the rubber for a few seconds under the hair dryer (ONLY A FEW SECONDS) will allow lashes to hold for a better lift and curl all while lasting longer once mascara is applied.
Having quality beauty and skin care doesn’t always mean you need to spend a fortune on expensive tools or visits to the dermatologist for fillers or lifts. These beauty hacks that I’ve shared are simple and easy having you save time and money all while leaving you feeling and looking refreshed and rejuvenated.
