Wish your skin could be as fresh, smooth, and glowing as when you leave from a professional facial? It can. With the right products and techniques, you can get that ahh-spa facial feeling right at home
I spent years giving professional facials and I’m so excited to share my expert tips for an at-home facial with you! Here’s what I recommend for your best results:
Step 1: Set up
Make sure to put your hair back with a tie or cloth headband. Dress in a robe or terry towel dress so you have a clear canvas to work on and won’t worry about getting products on your clothes. And it’s just fun to really get into it, right?! Turn on some relaxing music and dim the lights if you have time to get in relax mode. Bonus points? Light a scented candle for some premium pampering.
Step 2: Cleanse
Start by removing all of your makeup and giving the skin a deep cleanse with a sulfate free wash that removes makeup and won’t strip moisture from your skin. I recommend the goPure Vitamin C Cleanser. It’s not only sulfate free, its formulated with antioxidant Vitamin C, soothing Aloe Vera, and nourishing Rosehip Oil to gently cleanse and hydrate the skin while removing pore-clogging toxins, makeup, and impurities. You don’t want dirt or oil getting in the way of the awesome products you’re about to use. Start at the chin and work upward in small, circular motions.
Keep it gentle. Use two fingers to massage in the cleanser. Some pressure is fine but avoid tugging and pulling. Avoid using hot or cold water while washing your face–warm is just right. Then pat skin dry with a soft cloth.
Step 3: Steam
This part can be a bit of a challenge to recreate at home, but so worth it. Steam is the key to opening up the pores, softening skin, and increasing circulation. Bring a pot of water to boil and grab a towel that’s large enough to cover your shoulders, head and bowl. You can even add herbs or essential oils if you have them on hand. A facialist I loved used to always add chamomile tea to the steam.
PRO TIP: Drape the towel over your head and lean your face into the steam. (Make sure to turn the fire off on the stove) Don’t get too close (keep your face about 10-18 inches away) and don’t steam for longer than 10 minutes.
Step 4: Exfoliate
Not only does it remove dead skin and leave your skin feeling super soft, but exfoliation also helps even out your skin tone and allows skincare product to penetrate better. However, you DO NOT want to exfoliate with products that contain microbeads. Why?
Many of the particularly abrasive scrubs tend to have rough or jagged particles in them such as grounded nuts or seeds. When rubbed into your skin, these jagged grains can cause unsightly micro-tears in your skin that make it more susceptible to environmental damage, pollution, and sun damage—and that means looking older, faster. That’s why I created the goPure Exfoliate and Restore Duo with chemical exfoliants that use natural enzymes or acids to get rid of all that dead skin to reveal smooth glowing skin, without the damage. And, it also counterbalance that powerful skin exfoliation with skin-soothing ingredients to fortify and protect the fresh layer of skin.
PRO TIP: You don’t have to scrub hard with this. The enzymes do the work for you! Wet your face, lather it on and gently massage it in, then leave it on for a few minutes to work its magic before rinsing it off.
Step 5: Mask
Now that your skin has been cleaned, steamed, and polished, it’s time for a mask. Your pores are open and ready to soak up the nourishing mask ingredients. I highly recommend the goPure Restorative Enzyme Mask with Active Fruit Enzymes, Glycolic Acid and Gotu Kola.
In this incredible mask, natural pumpkin and papaya extracts softly dissolve any impurities and dull skin. Rare botanicals such as the Reish mushroom, Gotu Kola and Willow Bark deliver anti-oxidants, vitamins and nutrients, providing an additional boost to your skin. And, while you basque in the candle light and mood music, your skin will be nourished and hydrated with a unique blend of soothing botanical moisturizers including Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Rosehip Oil and Jojoba Oil. We’ve put a lot of thought and research into our products so you don’t have to!
PRO TIP: Heard of glycolic acid? It helps remove the buildup of gunk in between your pores that makes them look larger. And voila, a fresh face is yours! Leave the mask on for at least 10 minutes before rinsing, longer if you have the time.
Now, you could end this at-home facial here and notice a huge improvement in your skin– but if you’re the overachiever type and have time for some extra credit towards glowing, fresh from a facial skin, keep going with steps 6 & 7! Why stop when you’re on a roll for the ultimate results?
Step 6: Serum
Now your skin is ready for something you don’t wash off – something that will keep it hydrated, soft, and protected from the elements for that dewy, youthful glow. And it helps your makeup go on smoother! It’s the goPure Hyaluronic Acid Serum with Vitamin C, Green Tea & Vitamin E. And this is something you should be putting on every night and day, not just at the end of your at-home facial.
Step 7: Seal it all in + Depuff!
Jade Roller to Seal it all in and de-puff goPure Jade Roller for Face and Neck
Jade Rollers are believed to help reduce the appearance of inflammation, puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles. They’re known to help with deeper penetration of the serum and products you apply to your face. Not enough sleep but need to look fresh for an event or just to leave the house? It’s time for the Jade Roller!
PRO TIP: Its important to use this with a serum, never on a dry face. There are two sides to the roller and here is how to use those sides properly. The larger side would be used for the cheeks, chin and forehead area. The smaller side is for the eye area above the eye and under the eye area.
Remember, you don’t have to make this a one-time at home facial. You can do this as often as you’d like or have time for! Just wait a couple days in between for the exfoliation step. And of course, you won’t have time to do the whole shebang every day. Think of it as a weekend wind down activity to really pamper yourself with all 7 steps!
Now, you know what to do—so make sure you order the products you need today and put your at-home facial appointment with yourself on your calendar now!
