An Esthetician’s Gift Giving Guide - Gifts under $40!

November 13, 2018 | BY Erin Driess

When it comes to the holidays nothing beats Christmas for me. I don’t know if it’s the beautiful lights, the shopping for gifts while listening to joyful Christmas music or maybe it’s just the happy and loving vibe you seem to get wherever you go during the season. I’d be lying if I were to say that I didn’t enjoy receiving gifts (well, besides getting those ugly Christmas sweaters…really Aunt Bev? Can’t you just pick up a gift card or something that sparkles while you’re out?). But just as much as I love receiving good gifts, I make sure the gifts I purchase are not only enjoyed but used often. Of course, it’s almost always expected that when a gift comes from me it’s most likely for your beauty or wellness…what would you expect?

I’ll share with you some great gift ideas I recommend giving as a stocking stuffer or as a gift alone, but before I let you in on my secrets, you must make sure this valuable information isn’t leaked…deal?

For those people in your life that love makeup like I do, this is a must have in anyone’s beauty bag. We have all tried applying foundation with our hands or with a beauty sponge, but have you thought about what kind of bacteria is being applied on your skin alongside the foundation? Using a silicone makeup blender allows not only more makeup to be applied without being absorbed as it’s nonporous but it’ll also avoid getting any oils and bacteria all while a smooth makeup application. It may take a little getting used to, but it is so well worth it! Tip of the trade, apply a little amount of foundation and pat it gently onto your skin, blending in a circular motion.

Can we talk about how embarrassing it is when you leave the house after tweezing and as you’re in your car stopped at a red light you find a few thick, dark hairs staring right back at you (I know I’m not the only one!) or when you think you did a flattering job applying blush with your regular mirror but with the not so 20/20 vision we don’t have anymore how can we tell how it actually looks. This is a gift that is amazing for all ages regardless whether you wear makeup or not. These light up mirrors make it so much easier to look at details as it has a couple of magnifying levels as well as a regular one with customizable lights to be as bright as you need it. Say goodbye to those beauty fails!

Okay, I know what you are thinking…why would I give someone pillowcases? Well, now that you ask satin pillowcases that are 100% polyester satin are friction free and will have you waking up feeling glamourous. When sleeping with a nice satin pillowcase you wake up with beautiful, frizz free locks. Regular pillowcases cause static even with dryer sheets and fabric softener so purchasing these satin pillowcases felt like a no brainer. Don’t just gift someone pillowcases, gift them a fabulously good hair day!

Usually when you give candles as gifts, it’s just another one to put on the shelf, but have you thought about gifting not only a wonderfully scented candle but also a soothing massage oil? With natural soy massage candles, you can do both with just one product. These types of candles are made with essential oils, cocoa butter, soy wax and can have your room smelling great in no time. Burn the candle for about 30-45 minutes until you see the wax has melted then most importantly blow out the flame. You must test the temperature of the wax with a finger before applying to make sure the temperature is to your liking. Once it is safe to use, pour a small amount onto your hand and use while giving a massage, as a moisturizer for dry hands and feet as well as on cuticles. Don’t worry about the heat, soy wax tends to melt slightly above our body temperature in case you were wondering.

There is never a day that you will walk into my apartment without a fresh scent of my favorite essential oils Lemongrass or Rosemary gently making its way in the air from the diffuser that I leave looking pretty on my counter. The awesome thing about essential oils and diffusers is there are no crazy chemicals or overly powerful scents being released in your space. This makes it much easier on those with sensitive noses and those bad allergies. You can purchase various types of diffusers…wooden, plastic, light up, you name it they have it. I tend to purchase diffusers that light up to give a nice ambiance that works well with your mood which will leave your home looking beautifully lit in the evening giving off a feeling of serenity…who doesn’t want that?

As an Esthetician, I love being introduced to new and upcoming skin care brands. I have been writing for goPure for some time now and also really love their Trio of Serums. These serums are a great gift as they are reasonably priced. These serums are packed with effective nutrients! The 3 serums are, Vitamin C Serum, Hyaluronic Acid Serum and Retinol Serum. For someone who is pregnant, breastfeeding or has sensitive skin I will recommend the Sensitive Skin Combo instead. Who doesn’t want to receive a fun set like these??!! Available for $38.90 on Buy it here.

When searching for the perfect gift for your family or friends make sure you keep in mind who you are gifting it to and will work well with their lifestyle. One thing that I do every year regardless of whom I’m giving it to is that I always make my gifts personal. I enjoy creating gift baskets with a theme whether it’s my best friend who loves her makeup, I add some makeup brushes and a makeup bag along with other small items that can be used with her silicon beauty blender or for my mother with a very sensitive nose I include several different essential oils that I purchase in sets and add them with her diffuser. Regardless on what you decide to give make sure you do it with a good heart and hopefully some good gifts!
